Description
Tan wool twill shirt, U.S. Army Air Force service uniform. Pointed shirt collar, center front placket with tan plastic buttons. Double patch pockets at chest. Epaulets with buttons. Long sleeves with cuffs and buttons. Center-back yoke. Hand-written lettering on right front placket, "SJS/P417" and "[ ]/SJS."
Provenance
Saveno J. Sileno, of Torrington, entered a cadet training program in 1943 at the age of 18. His basic training and flight training took him to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and Alabama. His class, 44J, received flight wings and Flight Officer commissions in October 1944. He spent several months training on the P-47 Thunderbolt and waiting for foreign assignment, up to the conclusion of World War II in 1945. Sileno was a longtime resident of Litchfield.
