Description
Baluster form silver sugar bowl on pedestal foot. Stylized repeating leaf pattern around top and bottom of base, on rim, and on shoulder. Two double scroll handles. Dome cover lid with finial case to resemble a basket containing four distinct flowers. A "D" for Deming engraved on one side of body. "J.D.P." for Julius Deming Perkins engraved on the opposite side of the body. This sugar bowl is part of a five piece tea service given to Julius Deming Perkins by Lucretia Deming for his marriage in 1868. The date of the piece, engravings and family tradition indicate that the tea service was likely owned by Julius Deming during his life and was then passed down in the family. Estate inventories in the Litchfield Historical Society archives indicate that Julius Deming owned various pieces of silver, including a possible multi-piece tea service at the time of his death.
