Description
Rectangular, colored print of a winter scene, as drawn by William Hamilton Gibson (likely printed from an etching by the artist). Print shows a wooded area with numerous trees in tan, black, and grey. Most of the trees and smaller plants and shrubs are bare or have only a few remaining leaves with the exception of a few evergreens visible in the foreground. The ground is covered in snow with areas of grey and white used to convey snow drifts and animal tracks. In the center of the foreground, six brown rabbits gather around a crude rabbit or animal trap made of sticks and rope, attached to an overhead branch. Artist signature visible at lower-right, with heavy black plate mark (printed) around scene. In printed text at bottom, "WINTER IN THE WOODS - Drawn by W. HAMILTON GIBSON." Faint fold line down center. On reverse, printed pages from Harper's Weekly magazine, including a catalog of holiday books for 1885.
