Description
Rectangular hinged with strongbox with cast faux feather edge panels. Pivoting iron handle to lift lid. Brass knob releases spring released circular brass plate that is hinged and riveted to the iron door with rectangular plate. Front, rear, and sides all have faux panels and the sides have pivoting carrying handles. Sides dovetailed and forved together under heat to form permanent bond.

According to family tradition this strongbox belonged to Julius Deming.

The Litchfield Historical Society Archives contains a receipt from Luke Lewis to Julius Deming for payment of $42.50 for a cast iron chest purchased from Lewis. (Luke Lewis receipt, 1805 Jan 24).
