Description
Gren wool cap; folded rectangle shape; edge of fold trimmed with black cord. Pinned on side, near front, is a round patch with blue background, red edge, and white plane and parachute embroidered design; on inside a brown leather band and yellow silk lining; label "The Fortress/A Berkshire Product/Registered U.S. Patent Office" with plane design
Comment
Worn by Edward A. Raymond while serving in U.S. Army during World War II. The pinned patch is an airborne division garrison cap insignia, issued to members of the parachute and glider (plane) infantry and artillery divisions. Gliders facing to the right indicated officers, and to the left indicated enlisted men. The donor was an officer at the time he was issued the patch.
