Description
Man's Hat, Dressing or Morning Hat which would have been worn with a morning gown/robe. Fez style hat of black velvet and red wool, lined with blue silk, trimmed with metallis thread and large metallic tassel from the center of top. According to the accession book this was owned by Captain Luman Wadhams (1834-1864)
Comment
Captain Luman Wadhams (1834-64) was born in Goshen, he was a captain in the Civil War, and was in charge of a group from Camp Dutton. He died in the war, as did two of his brothers. This morning/dressing cap dates to 1850, when he would have been 16 years old. Probably worn through his 20's.
