Description
Round metal and plastic buttons with safety pins on back. Gold-colored metal with white overlay; blue text along top, "AMERICAN AGRICULTURALIST" with "NATIONAL PARKS" underneath; blue text at bottom, "ALASKA/TOUR/1952." Rectangular window across center of bottom with paper label underneath, inserted through back of button. Labels read, "Mr. A. B. Webster" (d) and "Mrs. A. B. Webster" (e). Written along one side of each label reverse, "L2-A-2" in pencil, possibly the Websters' room on the ship.
Provenance
Kept in travel case containing souvenirs of Art Webster and his wife, who went on an Alaskan Cruise on the S.S. Chilcotin in 1952. The Chilcotin was operated by the Union Steamship Company between 1947 and 1958, primarily offering summer Alaskan cruises. The American Agriculturist was a printed paper or journal that featured stories, advice, and reports related to farming, gardening, etc. The publication appears to have organized or sponsored trips to Alaska and other locations.
