Preliminary pattern for St. Joseph, Defender of the Church and Patron of Workers Mosaic, done by Purves in 1964 for the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Numbered (5) in pencil on the far right side. Stamped with “AUSTIN PURVES LITCHFIELD, CONN. 06759” Red, blue, white, brown paint and colored pencil on drawing paper over a pencil grid. Folded on the left short edge 1.5 inches and in the middle.
