Description
U.S. Army Battle Dress Uniform (BDU). Camouflage jacket (a) with spread collar with buttonholes. Front placket with zipper and snaps. Long sleeves with Velcro. Two chest patch pockets. Epaulets with buttons on shoulders. Embroidered name at right side above pocket, "FINAN." Embroidered at left side above pocket, "U.S. ARMY." American flag patch on right sleeve. Printed label on interior with size, fiber content, and care instructions; listed as "Coat, Cold Weather: Field Camouflage Pattern." Camouflage blouse (b) with spread collar, long sleeves, front placket with buttons. Two chest patch pockets with buttons. Embroidered name above right pocket, "FINAN." Embroidered above left pocket, "U.S. ARMY." American flag patch on right sleeve. Printed label at center-back with illegible text. Small printed label at right-back.
Provenance
Worn by Brian Finan, b. Litchfield, who served in the Army from 1976 to 1994 and retired as a Major. Finan served as an undercover intelligence officer for most of his career. This uniform was worn during temporary duty in Macedonia (former Yugoslavia) in 1994. Finan's father, James Finan, served during World War II; his jacket is also in the collection (2020-42-2).
Comment
Jacket and blouse have matching shoulder sleeve insignia on left sleeve, 66th Military Intelligence Brigade. Blouse has blue and white United Nations patch on right sleeve. Blouse lapel has Army rank insignia for Major (gold leaf cluster) at right, and patch with Military Intelligence Branch insignia at left. Jacket has rank insignia pins for Major on epaulets.
