Description
Glazed earthenware dishes used as toys or play teaware. White ceramic with blue transfer-printed decoration, all identical. Center of well has landscape scene with two boys in the foreground standing by a river, with a bridge and castle in the background. Geometric border around base of rim and floral pattern around edge of rim. The rim features alternating pattern of identical castle scenes (4) and flower clusters (4), against a background of thin, closely-grouped horizontal lines. A is marked "B" on the bottom, B is marked "25", D is marked "12" in blue ink, and E and F are also marked "25"; all marking impressed unless otherwise noted.
Provenance
Belonged to Margaret Sargent Fisher, wife of Samuel H. Fisher, who grew up in New Haven in the 1870s-1880s. Later displayed in Babbitt home.
