Description
Branding iron or stamp used to mark textile working machines. Iron head riveted to T-shaped iron shaft. On end of shaft is "J HOPKINS" in reversed, raised lettering; lower curve on the "J" is fairly worn. Square wooden handle with chamfered corners.
Comment
Joseph Hopkins (1764-1834) of Northfield, a maker of spinning wheels, used this iron to mark each wheel he made.
