Description
Traveling or portable writing desk and toilet case. Belonged to James MacFarlan (1796-1884) of Brooklyn, NY. Black lacquer case with brass inlaid bands, brass nameplate inscribed: "James MacFarlan". Stamped black leather interior, with stand up mirror, folding over to writing service with compartment for quills/pen, 2 glass inkwells within leather cases with spring top closures. Compartment beneath writing surface complete with 2 cut glass tumblers with silver tops, 2 cut glass bottles with silver tops, 2 boot hooks with ivory handles, 2 cork screws, 2 pair of scissors, 1 razor, 1 paper cutter, 1 manicure, 1 knife, 1 tool for ears, 1 clothes brush, 1 hat brush, and 1 shaving brush.
