Description
G.A.R. soldiers' and sailors' memorial dedication ribbon. Red satin ribbon with fringed edges. At center inside a rectangular box is an image of the monument. Below the monument in black printing: "Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial / HEIGHT OF TOWERS. / 115 FEET. / DIAMETER OF TOWERS. 20 FEET. / DEDICATION / Hartford, Conn., / September 17th, 1886."

The arch depicted on the ribbon was the first permanent arch in America.Iit honors the 4000 Hartford citizens who served in the Civil War and the 400 who died for the Union.
