Description
Glazed earthenware teacup and saucer, used as a toy or play teaware. A - Off-white ceramic saucer or dish with incised lines forming decoration around rim and narrow line of blue glaze around edge. Donated as companion to 2016-52-23b. B - Off-white ceramic, handleless tea cup with extensive blue transfer-printed decoration. Exterior of the cup has an agrarian scene with a milkmaid, shepherd, and their animals under the shade of a tree with a farmhouse in the distance; decoration extends down the foot of the teacup. Interior has a floral motif around the rim with a small image of the farmhouse at the center of the bowl. Donated as companion to 2016-52-23a.
Provenance
Belonged to Margaret Sargent Fisher, wife of Samuel H. Fisher, who grew up in New Haven in the 1870s-1880s. Later displayed in Babbitt home.
