Description
Oil on canvas board painting of a rural scene. Painting shows a barn facing to the right, with a gabled roof section in the front and a slanted roof section behind. In the foreground are various smaller outbuildings, a vegetable garden, hay stack, and fence. Visible in the background are rolling hills and possible another structure behind a patch of trees. Low grass in the foreground, in front of barn. Artist's signature in the lower-right corner. Thin frame, dark wood moulding.
Provenance
Donor's mother, Dorothy Wagstaff Ripley, was an author and illustrator of children's books. She was a close friend of Margaret Wise Brown. The scene is believed to be local to Litchfield, Connecticut.
