Description
Round cardboard box with lid. Lid has a red rim with black printed text, "C&K Hats." Top of lid has handwritten text in blue ink, "D297-2637/MRS. LAVINA WESTOVER'S/SILK HOOD (BANTAM)." Bottom of box has grey stripe with the text "THE CROFUT AND KNAPP COMPANY NEW YORK" in black, with the first letter of each word in red. Around the remainder of the box is a grey-blue silhouette of the city with various scenes: a beach, a crowd in front of a ship, a group of people on a platform and in front of a building, a car, and two horses led and ridden by a man and a woman.
Provenance
Originally contained a bonnet belonging to Mrs. Lavina Ensign Woodruff Westover of Bantam. The box dates from a later period than the bonnet, likely used as storage for the item after Mrs. Westover's death.
