Description
Violet Ray Generator and components. Wooden box covered with black fabric. Top opening lid with metal latch and black leather carrying handle. Interior of box contains electric cord with two prong plug-in. Bakelite handle, and four glass electrodes in various shapes.
Comment
The Violet Ray Generator (also known as an ultra violet device or machine) were made and sold in the tens of thousands for home use between about 1915 and 1950. Literature accompanying the devices claimed to cure just about everything including heart disease, paralysis, wry neck and writers cramp. Utilizing a handle that could accept a variety of differently shaped glass electrodes, the device could be used to apply a high voltage, high frequency, and low current to the human body for therapeutic purposes.
