Watercolor portrait miniature of an older woman from the bust up. Sitter is seen wearing a cap, dark dress, and ruffled collar. Miniature framed under glass. A handwritten note is pasted to the back that reads "Elizabeth Stockwell/ Collier - wife/ of Thomas Collier/ From a portrait in Philadelphia".
Provenance
This portrait miniature was owned by the Fisher family who lived in the Sheldon Tavern in Litchfield, CT.
Comment
This portrait miniature is painted after an oil portrait of Mrs. Thomas Collier that was painted around 1825. The original portrait (1929-06-2) is also in the collection of the Litchfield Historical Society.
