Description
Membership medal in the Hereditary Order of the Descendants of Colonial Governors, presented to Edith Perkins Rockhill (1870-1946). Three-piece medal comprised of white silk ribbon with red stripes along each edge. Ribbon is attached at top to gold metal bar with pin and catch on reverse. Attached to ribbon underneath are an additional three metal bars. Bars are engraved with the names of colonial governors from top to bottom: "GOV. JOHN HAYNES."; "GOV. GEORGE WYLLYS."; "GOV. THOMAS DUDLEY."; and "GOV. WILLIAM LEETE." Ribbon terminates in a metal ring. Attached to ring is an 8-pointed gold star with red enamel border and gold crown at top. At center of star are raised enamel letters "C" and "G", overlapping. Engraved on reverse of star is "Edith Howell Perkins/151."
Provenance
Edith Perkins Rockhill was a descendant of the Deming family of Litchfield and presumably of the four colonial governors listed on the medal. Donated by a descendant of the Deming family of Litchfield.
