Description
U.S. Army uniform, World War II era. A - Olive wool Eisenhower jacket. Notched lapels, placket front with buttons. Two flap breast pockets Long sleeves with buttoned cuffs. Epaulets with buttons on shoulders. Metal buckles at side waist. Fabric tag at center back with writing, "36R." Handwritten inside at left, back, "LUZI/12124705." B - Olive wool flannel pants. Two side pockets and two back pockets, one with a button closure. Buttons on inside of waistband, button fly front. Fabric tag at front, right side "W32/L33." C - Olive wool flannel pants. Two side pockets and two back pockets, one with a button closure. Buttons on inside of waistband, button fly front. Fabric tag at front, right side "W32/L31." D - Tam cotton twill shirt. Spread collar and button front. Two flap breast pockets. E - Tan wool and cotton tie. Woven fabric label at bottom, "BEAU BRUMMELL/4 FOLD UNIFORM TIE/CCNS. U.S. PAT. RE. 209-42/52% WOOL 48% COTTON - MFR. 124/WASHABLE."
Provenance
Army uniform of Reno "Ray" Luzi of Litchfield. Luzi (1922-2016) was a first-generation American born to an Italian family in Bantam. He attended the Pratt Institute in 1941 to study architecture, and joined the Army Reserve in 1942 before being assigned to active duty in 1943. During his training, he took a course in blueprint creation, and after being deployed to Europe he was assigned to a unit tasked with creating blueprints to repair infrastructure in Northern France and the Rhineland. He was in Reims when the German command issued its surrender in the city in 1945, and was discharged in 1946.

Identification of insignia as follows: above right breast pocket, tan patch with yellow eagle, Honorable Discharge lozenge; on right sleeve, three olive chevrons with "T", T/3 rank insignia (Technician 3rd Grade); on upper-left sleeve, blue patch with red lightning bolts, blue star in multifoil shape, and gold chains, HQ ETO (European Theater of Operations) and Communications Zone; on upper-left sleeve, below previous patch, OISE tab, section designation for a communication zone within the ETO (OISE was east of Paris, centered at Reims); on lower-left sleeve, gold bars (overseas bars, each one signifying six months of service) and olive bar (service stripe, signifying three years service in the Army).
