Description
Oil on board (masonite) painting of a field of daffodils. Foreground of browns and greens with lines of yellow daffodils angling upwards from lower-left of landscape. Prominent tree in lower-left. Hill drops off at the middle ground with a row of trees and shrubs running across landscape, before rising in the background to meet a sky of grey and blue. Trees are bare and are finished with loose, light brushstrokes, giving an overall blurry impression around the vibrant yellow of the daffodils. Signed at lower-left, "DERWITSCH." Framed in gilt wood frame with beaded decoration; gilt lining with linen canvas covering. Paper backing on reverse.
Provenance
First planted by Remy and Virginia Morosani in 1941, the daffodil plantings on Wigwam Road in Litchfield are open to visitors in the spring. The land is part of Laurel Ridge Farm. ARTIST: Richard Derwitsch is a landscape painter in the Torrington/Winsted area.
