Oil on canvas rectangular almost 1/2 length portrait of a man, Edwin McNeill, facing right. Wearing a black jacket, his right hand hidden in left side of suit jacket. Red receding hair and red beard. Framed in gold wooden frame.
Comment
George Frederick Wright, (1828-1881), born in Washington, CT. He was a portrait painter in Hartford, and the custodian of the Wadsworth Athenaeum Gallery in 1847. He studied abroad and at the National Gallery. He painted two famous portraits of Abraham Lincoln. He was found dead in a gutter in Hartford.
