Description
High chair/playpen combination. Four canted, turned legs with three stretchers on sides and back. One stretcher high up on front, turned. Back legs cut with dowel. Front legs cut with metal hinge. Saddle shaped seat with hoop continuous arm and back slightly arched with seven turned fancy spindles. Platform at base between legs. Seat portion hinged to fall forward. Base forms pen with stretchers and base platform with skirt, square sides and back, concave front. Bottom fo chair seat and top stretchers provide a play surface. "3" in paint on seat bottom and in ink "used by C.E. Buel/by his children/by Peter & Honor Buell"

The chair was used by donor's grandfather Charles Edward Buell (873-1935). He was born in his grandparent's house the Philoman Murray house on South St. (now known as the Dr. Alason Abbey house). His mother Cornelia Murray, who married Appolos Warner Buell died in 1877 when Charles was three years old
