Description
Bronze Masonic medal. Oblong bar stamped with 'CONNECTICUT" attached to deep purple ribbon. Circular medallion hanging from bottom of ribbon. Stylized leaf pattern stamped around edge. Man seen from bust up stamped in center. 'FIRST GRAND MASTER, 1788-1791" stamped above bust. 'PIERPONT EDWARDS" stamped below. 'GRAND LODGE OF CONNECTICUT / AWARDED / TO W.G. GRANNISS / 1939 / FOR / DISTINGUISHED / MASONIC / SERVICE / A.F. & A.M." stamped on back. Black nylon case for the medal. Case has four flaps with two snap closures on front. Central inside panel covered in blue velvet. Top and side plate lined with blue silk. White tag printed in blue with "Louis M. Gardella / Manufacturing Jeweler / 42 Asylum St. / Hartford, Conn." sewn on inside of top flap. Cream colored cardboard box with lid.

Typewritten note: M.W. Weston G. Granniss, a Master Mason for Fifty three years: Worshipful Master of St. Paul's Lodge No. 11 in 1890 and Grand Master of Masons in Connecticut in 1909. Active in all Masonic Bodies and one of the members of the first conference of Grand Masters held in Baltimore in 1909. As Custodian of the Work he has been indefatigable in the preservation of the ancient landmarks and tenets of our profession. To know him is to love and honor him and to be inspired by his high ideals of Masonic life.
