Description
Oil on canvas portrait of Hannah Griswold Peters attributed to Ammi Phillips, in reproduction frame. Woman faces right and is seated in a red chair, wearing a lace bonnet and black dress with lace collar. She holds a piece of lace in her lap and part of a pocket watch with ornate clock key fob is visible.
Provenance
At the time of donation, the companion portraits of Hannah Griswold and Manly Peters were attributed to Ammi Phillips. They appear as "Lady in Cap" (223) and "Man with Turned Down Collar" (222) in the chronological list of portraits in Black and Holdridge, "Ammi Phillips: Portrait Painter 1788-1865." Multiple parties have questioned the Phillips attribution upon viewing the paintings.

Daughter of Oliver and Huldah West Griswold of Goshen; married Manly Peters in May, 1827. Born 1805, died 1893.
