Description
Wooden advertising yardstick for Mason & Smith, a business partnership of George E. Mason and George A. Smith that advertised as furniture dealers and funeral directors in Litchfield. Light wood, marked in inches on one side with black text underneath, "MASON & SMITH./Litchfield./Conn./Telephone 21-3." Marked on reverse in 1/4 yard segments with black text underneath "Furniture Dealers/Funeral Directors/Upholstering/and Repairing."
Provenance
The LHS archival collection contains receipts from Mason & Smith dated 1906 and 1907 (see Beckwith Collection), The is also a receipt from George A. Smith dated 1911; it is likely that the partnership of Mason and Smith ended sometime around 1910. The store was located on West Street, next to Granniss & Elmore and above the harness shop. The LHS archival collection contains two photographs of the storefront, one exterior and one interior.
