Description
Glazed earthenware teacups used as toys or play teaware. Off-white ceramic, handleless teacups with brown transfer-printed decoration, all identical. Exterior has a repeating landscape scene featuring two pagodas with a river or lake in front; two men seem to be rowing a boat on the water, in which stands a woman in a black dress and hat. Interior has pagoda in the center and an alternating pattern of pagodas (3) and flowers set in geometric motifs (3). Matches 2016-52-29 a-e and 31-33.
Provenance
Belonged to Margaret Sargent Fisher, wife of Samuel H. Fisher, who grew up in New Haven in the 1870s-1880s. Later displayed in Babbitt home.
